Frequently asked questions
Straightforward answers about what coaching is, how sessions work, and whether Signal & Structure may be a good fit.
Before getting started
Questions are part of choosing the right support.
Coaching should make sense before you commit to it. These are some of the questions a prospective client may want answered first.
01What is ADHD and executive-function coaching?+
It is practical, collaborative coaching focused on planning, prioritization, organization, task initiation, time awareness, routines, follow-through, and other day-to-day executive-function demands. The work centers on building systems you can use in real life.
02Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to work with a coach?+
No. Someone may seek coaching because they have ADHD, suspect they have ADHD, or simply recognize recurring difficulties with planning, focus, organization, time, or follow-through. Coaching does not provide diagnosis.
03How is coaching different from therapy?+
Coaching focuses primarily on present-day goals, practical systems, action, and accountability. Therapy may address mental-health symptoms, diagnosis, trauma, emotional processing, or clinical treatment. Coaching is not a substitute for psychotherapy, medical care, or mental-health treatment.
04Are sessions virtual?+
Yes. This fictional Signal & Structure practice is presented as Minneapolis-based with individual virtual coaching for adults, college students, and professionals.
05What if I have already tried planners, apps, and productivity systems?+
That is useful information. Coaching does not assume the answer is another planner. We look at why previous systems stopped working, what created friction, and what a new support would need to do differently.
06How long do people usually work with a coach?+
It depends on the goal. A focused issue may fit a short coaching cycle, while broader executive-function work may benefit from several weeks of testing and adjustment. Some people continue with lower-frequency support as responsibilities change.
07Can coaching help with school or work?+
Yes. Student coaching may focus on assignments, studying, deadlines, schedules, and independent routines. Professional coaching may focus on workload management, meetings, communication, project execution, prioritization, and transitions between competing demands.
08What happens during a discovery call?+
The discovery call is a short conversation about what feels difficult, what you have already tried, what you hope would be different, and whether coaching appears to be a useful fit. You do not need to prepare a complete history or arrive with a perfect goal.
A note about fit
Some needs belong outside coaching.
Signal & Structure is presented as a coaching practice, not a psychotherapy, medical, diagnostic, or crisis service.
Someone needing treatment for a mental-health condition, diagnostic evaluation, medication management, or emergency support should seek an appropriately licensed healthcare or mental-health professional.
